International audience. Abstract: This article deals with magnetically-induced vibration and noise due to Maxwell forces in synchronous rotating electrical machines (permanent magnet or wound rotor machines). The acoustic magnetic noise phenomenon is analyzed, and the different magnetic force harmonic sources are characterized analytically in terms of spatial order and frequencies. Some analytical and numerical noise-prediction tools are presented, as well as low noise design rules. Some vibro-acoustic test data are finally interpreted. .
