Open-loop cavity flow control with Micro-Magneto-Mechanical Systems (MMMS) microvalves

International audience. A design of Micro-Magneto-Mechanical microvalves is proposed in this paper to perform open-loop flow control experiments on an open-cavity flow. The unstable flow developing over the open cavity is sensitive to the velocity fluctuations induced by a forcing. Consequently, a linear array of microvalveshas been integrated on the upstream wall of an open-cavity. Both quasi-steady and pulsed jets effects of the actuators on the flow were studied. Microvalves jets reduced the open -cavity oscillations. A reduction of 20 dB in the cavity fundamental amplitude sound pressure level was measured. Dependingon the forcing frequency, pulsed jets could further reduce this amplitude.
